When I was a kid (late 70’s) a friend and I wrote our initials in a concrete pad alongside a petrol station in Africa where we lived. I still have friends that live there and one close by to where I lived, she went and took some pics of the area for me and I had her check on the pad. Yup! They were still there over 40 years later. The petrol station was long since demolished and replaced with, iirc, a kfc.

Seems very Wabi Sabi. 
When I first saw this pic, I thought it was just stamped into the concrete. That’s really interesting to keep the wood there! You could do some pretty cool things like dye the wood. (I know it won’t last forever, but still fun.) I like this!
Great idea for stepping stones or garden placements! Love what you did!
