Sorry, I don’t remember anymore, as I’ve moved on from pen-making. I’d recommend buying a small quantity and sacrifice a few to the laser and find out what suits you. I did find that on one name, the laser was too aggressive for the variable bamboo, and the middle of all the closed letters dropped out. (major oops)
A note on what’s appropriate here–in the Made on a Glowforge area, we don’t discuss the details of settings for non-proofgrade materials. If someone does post such information, it can be found in the Beyond the Manual section. Free files can be found in the Free section, but other than that it’s never appropriate to ask for files to be shared.
I know this post is older, but I came across it today and was disappointed to see comments indicating it’s inappropriate to ask about settings. I’ve always used my Glowforge in an open-source community spirit. I guess I will have to stop that. Shame, communities grow and expand through collaborative spirit.
Discussion of settings isn’t outlawed, they just must be discussed in the Beyond the Manual category. Most of the time, when it pops up, one of the Regulars will politely move the post to the correct category.
