Engraved hand turned pen

I’ve been turning pens on a lathe for several years and finally decided to try engraving names on them. The lighter pen is made of hickory, made one pass at the engrave. The other is ironwood, two passes used to make the engrave stand out.

I hand turn pens and engrave them for a number of customers. These look great…

Congratulations…:grinning:

They are really lovely. And that’s a nice pen shelf you made to put them in!

I too am a woodturner and have recently purchased a glowforge, primarily for engraving wood turned items, pens, handles, etc. Unfortunately, I don’t know how. Will you share your process with me? Set up, jigs, software? Thanks for your time

I used a simple method. I drew a box to help with alignment. Shape of box is dependent on the size of the pen. I center the text on the box. I don’t use a jig I simply use masking tape to stabilize the pen barrel and center the box on the pen barrel. Once engraved I then apply the finish and assemble the pen.
