Engraving on painted wood

do you have a prefered brand? I use mainly TransferRite and RTape for vinyl.

We do this often. In my experience, the white transfer paper makes a better mask than blue tape - less gooey residue afterward. I never use the clear vinyl transfer tape.

Laser etching through paint (mask with transfer paper for easy cleanup, or wipe with damp cloth if the paint is glossy): https://www.instagram.com/p/_Ym7yPv95D/

low power, high speed. just make sure the paint doesn’t have any metallics and be sure the paints are laser compatible.

welcome, rzempirellc! sounds like you are familiar with lasers!
I almost replied, too, but then realized the topic was from 2015

… and the OP hasn’t visited the site since 2018!

(… but I wasn’t going to say anything!)

Welcome to the forum! This may be an old thread, but people like their knowledge refreshed, even if they weren’t the ones to ask the question. I learn “old stuff” all the time from new members.

Except the “refresh” is not accurate. Virtually all engravings over painted wood or acrylic were metallics for me. Dozens of them over the years. Also, low power and high speed barely touches the surface, and rarely leaves a useful engrave. I have different settings for different (painted) materials, but generally I use 100% or Full (I am on my 2nd Pro machine, so there is a difference between them) and 1000 speed.
