What material setting do you use to engrave on slate?

Slate coasters - UL & UA

First time trying slate coasters. Came across a set of slate coasters at Staples and figured I could turn them into a quick Christmas present. Used the following settings pulled from someone else’s post. Power 30 Speed 905 LPI 270 [Slate coasters]

I have engraved on dozens of slate/stone objects and have never found “one right setting”… I “work up to it”, and if after a few passes I see it’s not touching it, I cancel (open lid) then bump up the power.

I’ve done natural pieces I collected from various places, and “finished” pieces like coasters. The coasters and such were always easier because I’m just vaporizing the coating they had applied.
