Engraving photos today

I finally found the time to play around with engraving photos. I used a solution of Borax on 1/4" Maple plywood for this one.

this turned out great. What prompted you to use Borax?

An article I ran across discussed it. I’ll try to post something in the tips section when I get a chance.

How did you process that photo? It looks more like drawn art than a photo!

I converted my image to B&W and then uploaded it to https://www.imag-r.com/ for further processing. Works like a charm.

I have heard of imag-r several times, but never tried it. This is amazing and makes me want to try it even more!

I’m curious what the borax was for?

A water and borax solution on the wood can make the process faster (requires less power, thus more speed). It can also make the engrave darker.

I just bought a month of the offline version…don’t trust online versions (ironic, huh?) do you think you can post your settings in the beyond the manual section? Or just message them to me :joy::rofl::grin::pray:

very nice. Looks like your solution could use a little more borax. It’ll produce a completely black mark when you hit the right ratio.

Very striking turn-out.

My photo work. No borax.
