That’s my understanding, at least when using the auto settings, like SD engrave. That’s how it determines how to engrave a photo, for example.

Technically it’s 0-Full. 0 being untouched, Full being as deep as possible.

Also keep in mind that speed and resolution play a part in depth as well. At a slow speed I once got a 3/4" engrave out of some scrap 1" wood (in a single pass!). It was crazy (and probably a bit dangerous).

Yes and No. For a vector fill, it doesn’t matter what color you use - you set the power, speed and lpi and that is what it does. For a raster image the closer to black, the more power that pixel receives, so yes a grayscale engrave.

For this:

It sounds like you would still want to do manual settings. Even on grayscale engraves, you have to experiment with settings and three types of power application (vary power, convert to pattern and convert to dots.)
