So doing a search with the terms “metal paint etching” leads to a few interesting posts. What I found interesting is that while there is a bunch of examples of people talking about it, I found no reference to anyone actually doing it with a glowforge. It has been done with other resists using a glowforge though. The first post below contains a link to a youtube video of somebody using paint as a resist using a different laser.
I have found some examples already for copper, ie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTGZcY7WyYI but I am wondering if there is any other known tried and tested methods for using a laser to draw designs onto a resist coating over sterling silver or other metals for acid etching?
OK, so here is where I learned how to do this, and also where I got the acid and other materials that I’ve made things with; it’s a great site & a great tutorial! Actually, just one of many tutorials that they have…

But it is based on what I will call “the old way”, of using transfer paper, that you would have to print out in reverse (on a laser printer, btw; an inkjet printer is useless for that), and then iron it on to you…
So a complete disclaimer here. I am a total laser newbie.
Although I have used a laser on the rare project in the past my first time using a laser unsupervised and in any large scale project was only about two weeks ago. I may be doing things completely wrong so feel free to correct my technique (we are all trying to learn here).
My second disclaimer is that I can’t take pictures of a lot of the things I do because of NDA agreements but I have asked permission to use some and the rest I have p…
