Etching Tile progressed to Etching Plates

So… etching white ceramic tile is still cool… i want to do elaborate kitchen tile backsplashes…
but… i decided to progress on to ceramic plates. These plates are available at world market for $5.99

and… fill in with a gold sharpie, then wipe off with a little alcohol…

Spectacular! I assume the sheen is no longer uniform, you can’t tell in the photo… Very nice indeed.

Are you planning on resealing the glaze in some manner?
Just curious.

@brokendrum

im not planning on eating off of them or really even putting food on them (ala serving dish) but the sharpie is pretty permanent, and will either hang on a wall or put keys or jewelry on it. really hadn’t thought that far… lol

@timjedwards
there’s no sheen in the etched area… the glaze is gone… but the plates are weirdly bumpy textured to begin with… i’ll post the link to the plates at world market and take a look at the side view… the dinner plates show it even more

Looks great! Could be pretty nice with some personalization and a plate stand.
