Ferosticker fire extinguisher

Anybody know anything about the ferosticker fire extinguisher? It’s a very small device that automatically activates in case of fire. I had never heard of such a thing, but it seems like it might be useful. I know I’m probably the only person who doesn’t stand over their GF during a 1 hour project, but it seems like a fairly low cost way to at least mitigate potential damage. My regular fire extinguisher would certainly be preferable, but IF I’m not there to use it, not much help. I’m thinking I’ll get one and hope it never activates.

I didn’t know this tech was being made in these form factors. If I can’t convince you stay near I’d think this would be better than nothing.

I have a “stovetop fire stop” device inside of my 3D printer cabinet “just in case”. No idea if it would save the day, but I figured it doesn’t hurt.

This is an interesting product, I might get one for the electrical panel. My guess from looking at it and reading their FAQs is that it really has to be in a small, enclosed space. Your Glowforge is probably on a desk or table in an open room, which would likely limit the effectiveness of this kind of extinguisher. Unless you mean to put it inside the machine, but I don’t know where there’s room.

I don’t think outside the cabinet would work. It looks pretty small and I’m betting I can find a location inside. My first thought is the inside of the front door, but will wait until I have it for final placement. I’ll give a report on installation, but hope to never give one on its use.

Not sure that would work… From their FAQ (emphasis mine):

Place Ferosticker above the fire risk area, such as over fuses, battery terminals, or wiring junctions.

You may be right about the placement. In this situation however, I’m more worried about the risk from a material fire rather than from the electronics. I guess it might be possible to mount inside the lid glass toward the rear of the machine. I’m usually looking into the GF from the front. Even if looking directly down, it’s never from over the rear-most position. I may try a piece of tape first, just to see what/how much is blocked. Another concern is making sure the head clears it if it’s overhead.

It looks like it’s a new form factor for the fire extinguisher balls that have been all the rage recently.

I imagine they help in specific circumstances, and definitely better than nothing.
