There is plenty of evidence that many owners have no ability to design even a basic box, so I can see how thieves make something from even the most basic designs.
It’s always astounded me that people spend all this money on a machine without having, or being willing to learn, basic design skills.
That seems to be the Cricut business model, and not all that terrible for selling stuff at a local flea market, and even selling plain 4" circles of cardboard as coasters I can understand.
But when they steal my minimalist design of a 4" circles of cardboard coasters I get really upset!
