Finally - a Laser-Cut part!

Hi, everybody. Been a while.

I’ve been working on a new obsession that’s heavy into electronics and 3D Printing, but yesterday (After months of working on a BB-8 without any laser-related parts) I was wrapping up my Pit Droid build, and was stuck because the little guy was pretty lifeless.

Then I got an idea… I fired up the Glowforge (I HAVE been using it, just not for anything worth mentioning here) and got to work.

A lens and some text and he looks MUCH better! (Thanks Glowforge!) But there was still something missing… A visit to my parts drawer and…

There we go! That’s MUCH better… See? Lasers and 3D printing DO go together!

P.S.
That text reads (in Aurebesh, the “Star Wars” language):
“DUM-Series Pit Droid - Manufactured by Service-O-Droid”

Oh I love it!

Have you tried making any collapsible lightsabers? I have been having a blast with them!

To light them up I am using a bright pen flashlight.

Here are my designs if you want to try them out:

Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Nice!

Actually, that was a whole DIFFERENT non-laser rabbit hole I went down before I started on the droids.

Have you seen the pool noodle ones? My grandsons can beat each other silly and nobody gets (seriously) hurt…

I had seen pool-noodle swords, but I don’t think I had seen them as lightsabers! That is pretty cool.

Yeah, mine are fun to extend and stab into things, but they don’t do well with sword battles… 3D printed blades are to brittle.

Welcome back @linefeed! Those are really amazing! Walking into a room with those guys hanging out would be a real freakout.

Awesome build! Your workshop looks like a real fun place to be. Maybe you can train the droids to fetch and carry.
