Don’t normally do that, either, but specifically wanted to see what would happen to the engrave when exposed to a harsh environment.

So I may be a simpleton but, was wondering how to keep the black, as I like it better in contrast to the cleaned one…silly me.

It’s essentially soot and smells to high heaven. You could try spraying shellac and sealing it, but I haven’t attempted it.
