Very nice, using focus .25 for .5 material.
I know when cutting foam the cut line shrinks away from the laser. About how much are you having to compensate for foam this thick?
From what I use, it varies with all. Some shrink back massively, some don’t. I always test a small cut before committing to a print.
Yeah I’ve only ever done headliner and craft foam.
For sure lots of testing. I even saw a bit of variation but for the most part I was using the trace tool to add or subtract about 2-3mm of my shape to account for the shrinkage.
Wow that’s significant. Do you think you’re overpowering the cut? Did you do a material test to get there or did you just hit it hard and go with it?
Did a bunch of testing getting deeper each time. The end result is I press the part through and it rips the final tiny bit of connection kind of like a perforation.
Those of us who’ve had machines for a while, and/or understand how the power and speed and focus height work, can quickly play around with settings to get the desired result.
I say that to give others hope and prompt them to experiment.
Although I have saved settings for materials I use regularly, I can work with anything after just a short test or two. It just becomes habit, practice. It’s like owning a power tool and having used it enough, you know all the “tricks” to get everything out of it when needed…
