Frosting Fun

I’m wanting to do a project that uses frosting, and lately I’ve been fascinated by the intricate sugar lace that I’ve seen. They do it by smearing a special sugar/gum mixture into a silicone mold. So of course I wanted to try making my own custom lace mold. Found a deal on a silicone kitchen mat and some sugar lace mix on Amazon, and went to work.

It’s a pretty thin mat (1.1mm) so I couldn’t engrave too deeply. Had a few hiccups in making the lace, but I finally got a workable result:

Now I’m ready to design the actual project.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you are doing with this yummy medium.

If it doesn’t work out for my project, I could always cast latex caulk or resin into it and make something more permanent.

Aye-yie! Those lace silicone molds cost a fortune…can’t wait to see what you develop for it.

Very cool idea. Special occasion in mind? Or just want to generally Wow your friends and relatives?

But engraving/cutting silicone in the GF makes a super dirty mess

It never occurred to me how filthy a laser would be… :no_mouth:

That’s a neat effect. I can’t wait to see what else you do!

This one wasn’t too bad. Nearly all the fluffy dust stayed on the mold for easy washout later.

Fun! I’ve manually cut lacy decor from fondant.
