Geometric Frames for Fractal Art

Most of my explorations feeding fractals to the glowforge has been towards cutting or engraving fractal designs. But recently I decided to try another approach, cutting cool frames to put my fractal art into. I’m having so much fun with this, I think it’s going to be my new artistic focus for a while.

These are all cut from 1/4" cherry plywood. I use a simple 3 layer assembly with a wood backing, a photo paper print, and a wood frame. Cut time is only a few minutes per frame. A little bit of scissor work and some super glue and they’re assembled! The next step I’ll be looking into is filling the recessed area with resin, and possibly giving the frame a coat of UV/Glow-in-the-dark paint so they turn into something cool in special lighting.

You make custom frames for your custom artwork. That first piece is awesome!

These are terrific. I hope you share updated photos if you add the resin and glowing paint.
