Glass Gazing ball stand

I’ve been wanting to incorporate a glass gazing ball into the planting bed in front of our house. I decided to tweak it a little and make it a welcome sign as well using the GF. Made from 1/8" acrylic in black and white.

Nicely done! How does the ball stay on top without rolling off?

Fortunately, the glass globe isn’t completely circular in shape. They are manufactured with a “stem” so that you can affix them into place. I simply drilled a 2 1/4" hole, about 2 inches deep into the top edge of the 4x4 post and stuck the stem into the hole. I also used some clear caulk to keep the moisture from seeping down into the hole and rotting the post.

BTW… thank you for the kind words!

Ah, neat! The silicone not only will keep the rain from the hole in the wood, but will also help hold in place.

I realize that a Gazing Ball is meant to be gazed at, but… an eye is a ball that does gazing, so my brain went there. Apologies if you are not a Tolkien fan.

Hahaha… that is GREAT! Wish I’d come up that.

Wow, it DOES look like an eye staring back at you!
