Glowforge Lid Savers

I was having trouble with my Lid coming loose from the metal support and hinge. So I made these little clips to hold the Lid down to the hinge.

I used some 3M No Slip Grip sandpaper folded so that the rubberized grip was outside.

I used 10 of these clips to hold the lid to the support and the rubber backing on the sandpaper both cushioned and protected the glass. I used 1/4 plexiglass for the material.

Here is the file I made for the clips:

Please note I made these just after I noticed the lid was not closing properly. They may not work if the bond is too far gone. So I am going to add them to the other side as well.

They may also be useful as clamps if you try re- gluing the frame to the glass.

Definitely a practical cut!

Cool! So, do you think the clips will permanently hold it?

Jury is still out on that question. I was considering adding a second batch to the other side. I don’t know if the hinge got stiff or the tape failed.

I wish I had done this before the top started coming off.

Given the activity on this subject, I think this is going to be a common problem.

It’s pretty rare overall, but devastating to the few it happens to!

Hmm, interesting! I still haven’t fixed my lid so these could be handy.

I’ll be cutting some for sure. Hope they hold for you!

Thanks. I’ve had both sides come lose at different times. This would definitely work better than trying to clamp in the upright position and make sure everything aligns. I’m going to use these in a preventative application.
