I might be in the minority - but I never expect a company that is new to hit a target date, ever. The first time through the process there are sooooooo many things that go wrong that if they ship on time it means they likely compromised on far too many things.
I did go ahead and order a Carvey and I got it last week and have been playing with it. I think it makes a nice complimentary tool to the glowforge and am excited to know I’ll have both to use together and it’s allowing me to really better practice with Fusion 360, etc.
Anyway - I’m thrilled to have the transparent communication and I’d much rather have a solid product that doesn’t bankrupt the company with warranty issues as a result of rushing. I’m also excited that the assembly will be done in the USA.
Hi again @dan. My question wasn’t that much about how you will know where to ship it to (I remember the part where I’ll be confirming my address once you’re ready to ship) but rather about the extra $500 (if I remember correctly) that I’d need to pay to have it delivered to Serbia instead of Greece. Import taxes will be a pain to begin with, but I was counting on them. What I wasn’t counting on are extra expenses because of the delayed shipping…
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still psyched about getting my Glowforge and do understand why the delay is necessary
They could offer a small number of bundles to choose from; a plastics pack, wood pack, mixed pack, vegan pack, maybe even a gluten free pack. I agree being able to pick each material would be cumbersome, since each material likely has a different cost associated with it
Actually, having sampled some of the gluten-free offerings at the local markets, you could probably substitute that for the premium hardwood pack and they would taste pretty much the same.
From everything we have seen on this forum, Dan doesn’t keep track of the minutia. He will certainly refer you to others for an official answer. I suggest an email to support@glowforge.com. Might take a day or two to receive an answer. Make sure your question is clear and can be answered without a detailed explanation because due to the recent announcements, they are likely quite backed up with emails.
Well, I’m still here. I’m still deciding if I will stay. I will probably purchase a cheap Chinese laser in the interim. I have many, non-critical projects I’ve been waiting to do on the 'Forge. The decision to stick with it will depend largely on what I see for progress in the next 3 months or so. With the Power supply now in what appears to be the final stages of testing, I am hoping to see a lot more come out of Laser Thursdays, and more than one Beta unit just down the street from HQ. If the power supply was one of the last big hurtles to producing somewhat reliable/safe Betas then they should not be far away from hand assembling a small army of them for testing. It certainly doesn’t take much away from production time to put a Go-pro on a 'Forge, and post the video for us to view either. I know many would love to see footage of it in action. I’m not even suggesting a live feed. I’m not suggesting disclosure of failures and what’s not working, or showing any features or capabilities beyond some engraving and cutting.
Wise move, hold all your cards, and only play the one you have to.
My personal belief is the next three months will show significant development, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they will be near shipping - he said.
New on here. Hard to keep up with it all, but looking forward to getting my GlowForge, even if it is next year. After owning both a chinese and american laser, I’m excited to see how this compares!
On the other hand, I have 6 months more to try to land a referral bonus. I’ve had none. Didn’t know about it until after I bought, so I missed the chance to give somebody a referral bonus and save $100. I’d love me some bonuses; but they didn’t figure into the decision before, and they won’t now for me.
Good luck to you if your referrals make up a significant portion of the less than 1% that have cancelled. And good job getting them in the first place.
That’s fine. My answer matched your question but I’m now guessing you were trying to suggest compensation because of potential loss of referral bonuses? There is no doubt in my mind what the answer is, probably yours too, but feel free ask.
