It’s not my project, but mostly if I’m cutting I use masking - if I’m engraving I don’t except if it’s unfinished wood that I intend to leave unfinished - if it’s already shiny, or I intent to sand anyway there’s no reason to waste the masking!
Also, there’s no difference in power between the Basic and the Pro until you’re at “Full”, in which case the Pro gets 5 more watts
