So having safety approvals only adds a bit of confidence, it doesn’t actually mean something is safe.

One of the differences between the States and our friends in Europe that I’ve noticed over the years is we tend to begin with the assumption, “If our government says it’s safe, then beware!” I know that’s slowly changing now, but I live in Texas, so It’s still in full force. Rule of thumb, If a politician or beurocrat says it, then it’s crap, or at least that’s the initial assmption (It’s just the Texas way)

And there are many home appliances with CE marks that burst into flames and burn peoples houses down anyway. I had a fridge nearly do that because water from defrosting got onto the PCB and caused it to burn.

I just found out that the fridge freezer that caused the towering inferno in London that killed 79 people uses the same control board as ours.

as long as your house isn’t wrapped in flammable, but very pretty, cladding then you have a fighting chance at least.

Ha, we did replace some mock Tudor woodwork and render with UPVC plastic last year. Opposite side of the house though. It would need to be the TV catching fire to set that alight.
