Welcome to the forum.

If the bottle is more than 2" (which most wine bottles are) you won’t be able to engrave in your Glowforge.

I wonder, have you looked at the wine bottle cheese boards? I’m not sure if melting it flat would ruin the look of the bottle that you like, but if it’s flat, you might be able to engrave it.

If you have some thin leather you can engrave that and apply that to the bottle. A small sand blasting engraver can also use that or some (non-PVC !)masking cut on the Glowforge as masking,

Similarly, you can cut a mask as @rbtdanforth describes and apply a glass etching paste. I have done that and, it worked well.

People have already responded with some great options. Here are a few items that are less than 2” and along the wine bottle theme if you want to pivot from the wine bottle idea:

Glass flask

Cork screws or wine glass tags

Wine trays

Oil curet

The melted down wine bottle trays @CMadok mentioned are also a great option.
