How Low Can You Go

Still pushing limits. I’ve been working on getting them to be a little less crispy. PG maple plywood. Cuts and spaces are all 1.5 points wide.

I’ve also noticed the back side of my cuts seemed to look less crispy as well.

That’s because the cut is a V shape. A lot more material gets vaporized near the surface. A perfect cut will just barely remove any material where it breaks thru, but that would lead to very unreliable cuts.

@geek2nurse: I have to admit I did not believe my eyes given your description. 1.5 points is only ~0.5 mm. On my screen your photos are close to 1:1 with my ruler. And, they do in fact show 10 “slats” in each ~1 cm square. The piece is ~8 cm square. Truly amazing! :sunglasses:

8 cm pretty much exactly. (8.08 before cutting.) Yep. :slight_smile:

I had one design I worked smaller and smaller, until it got so thin that it looked okay until touched, then it just turned to dust.
This looks close to that point.
