Idea to reality

Hi everyone. I have a friend who paints on canvas. She recently did a round painting but wanted to know if I had any idea how to frame it. I am not sure how to work out a design to be able to slot the canvas in and still make it look elegant without it looking bulky. Any ideas would be most welcome.
Thank you in advance

Can you provide any more detail?

  • How big is the canvas?
  • Do you want to make something on your laser only? Any other tools available?
  • What materials are you interested in?

In general:

  • I’d start with a solid disk the size of the canvas + 1 or 2 inches depending on look/size…
  • Cut a donut piece that is same outer diameter and has inner diameter just slightly larger than the canvas.
  • I’d layer pieces on the top to make something nice looking - or - would just cut another ring to finish it off. You can get fancy with intarsia if you like.

Regardless, if you’re making on the laser you’ll be layering pieces to make this.

The canvas is 12" but I only really have the glow forge to use (apart from paints etc of course)
I have 1\4 plywood but I also have med black acrylic. Thank you for the advice… back to the drawing board then

Which Glowforge model do you have? Pro that can do 12 inches (or more) or a Basic/Plus that is limited to just under 11 inch diameter cuts?

You can make this work, only takes a little more piecing together of things and some creative hiding of seams
