I moved your post because MOAG is for finished projects - but there’s no reason any of the designs made out of wood couldn’t be made out of acrylic…this one in particular you’d be able to see the card but you’d still have to figure out how to get to it (link to the design is in the comments)
When you can hide the effect, the surprise is that much more enjoyable. My wife wanted a box for a gift card. I said I think I can do better.

There is a wooden spring mechanism inside that snaps the card in and holds it from falling out. To get the card out, you slide the flower forward and force the card back through the springs.

I’m going to a baby shower (really, just a dinner) soon. I understand that surveys indicate most people prefer gift cards, and since this one is her second I thought that sounded like a good idea.
