Inlay Earrings + Kerf Tester + Tutorials

Hi there! I have a couple of things to share. We’ve been doing a lot of work with the Cuttle team to make the process of making press fit inlays a bit easier so we made a few projects with companion videos to show you how to use them:

Let me tell you a bit more about each one of them:

Inlay Kerf Tester

We started with a slight twist on a classic tester that let’s you find that dreaded kerf in a few easy steps. The companion video has detailed instructions on how to use it if you haven’t done this kind of thing before. And in true Cuttle fashion you can customize all the parameters, so if you are a power user you can easily get more precision or make more tests in one go.

Free Inlay Earring Designs

We are releasing these 3 templates, you can change the scale of the earrings without altering the hanging hole and they have a simple preview option. I think they are an easy way to get started with this kind of inlay and they require very little material.

Inlay kit

I’m particularly fond of this one because it combines the two faces of Cuttle, the templates and the editor. It’s not quite a template because it requieres that you move shapes around in the editor, but we structured in such a way that generating the cut file is automated, letting you concentrate on the shapes and the composition of the design (maybe this is what all good design software should accomplish ). It’s all explained in the video or you can start tinkering with it here.

I hope you have fun with these designs, also I’ll be happy to answer any questions. Thanks for reading!

Fabulous! Especially that one is not a smooth shape - that’s always tougher with kerf

Thanks, this looks like it will be very useful for some projects I have been avoiding!

This is great!!–and…it requires a separate subscription to another app. Is this available to those only using the Glowforge app? Not a benefit if we have to subscribe to another app.
Thank you.

It’s a completely separate service from Glowforge. You need a cuttle account to make cuttle designs.

What you do with your cuttle design after that is up to you, for most of us that means that we would push them to the Glowforge interface and go from there.
