Lake Michigan Depth Map w/ Saugatuck Detail

24" x 30" solid maple depth map with engraved details.

This was a combination project. I used my Glowforge to cut out the letters and engrave the details I used a CNC to carve the reliefs and make the cutout for the inlayed frame around the Saugatuck section. To achieve the gradient blue I used blue dye stain mixed with water-base poly in varying concentrations. Overall a very fun project!

That is very cool to get your own custom colors that still let you see the wood grain!

It was 1.8" thick maple. I milled down 8/4 rough sawn lumber and kept it as thick as I could.
