Laser embellishing one of my wood bowls

I am a long time wood turner and make a lot of different types of bowls and platters. My wife and I purchased a Glowforge to expand the types of projects we could tackle for our wood business where my wife makes wooden signs and I make decorative wood bowls.

This is my first wood turning piece that I’ve enhanced with a laser design. Oh, and the plate stand was made on the Glowforge as well.

Very nice. What type of wood?

No idea on the wood. This was something that has been in my inventory for several years. I actually turned the bowl 2 years ago, and it has been on my “needs more work” pile for a while.

I have a pile like that two. Never seems to get smaller. Just grows and grows and grows. Was at Home Depot today just for glue for some knife scales. Made the mistake of going by the hardwood lumber and was smacked in the face by a gorgeous flame birch board. Not sure what I’ll do with it yet, but I couldn’t pass it up!

This bowl was done with scoring. I just turned the power up to get a good burn.
