I have been turning my scrap leather into butterflies:
Here is a cut file (you right click on it to be able to save it as a svg):
After printing them I fold them up like this and use a clip to just get the leather in line and make it easier to feed the cord through. I leave it clipped for about 10-15 minutes and then remove the clip and then lace up the butterfly.
I use leather cord (under 3mm) to lace up the butterfly like this:
