I suspect that all the leds are in parallel, so individual control is not possible.
Even the ‘chaser’ strips where a single ‘dark pulse’ appears to travel down the strip is wired so that there are usually four sets of parallel connections, so that you can switch any one of the sets off in sequence.
Imagine - sets 1/2/3 on, 4 off. Then 1 off, 2/3/4 on, then 1 on, 2 off, 3/4 on, then 1/2on, 3 off, 4 on… so only four circuits for a any length.

You’ll need to get some led’s that indicate they are individually addressable. They cost a bit more.

You can get them a good bit cheaper if you look around and are willing to wait. Try dx.com, banggood.com, aliexpress.com (especially aliexpress), you’ll find a ton of vendors.

Yep, these are my go-to vendors and I also use dhgate.com as well. Most LEDS I’ve bought are pretty similar, but I really liked these waterproof ones. They have a silicon coating that makes them a bit more substantial.
