I think there could be some cool ideas, like creating wooden baseplates for a specific design where only the places you intend to connect bricks get engraved.

Don’t get me wrong. LEGO popped into my head a year and a half ago as well. But then I kinda went “Wait… Why?” I hear your idea of a wooden baseplate and I ask “Why?” I mean, they make brown LEGO baseplates. I started thinking along the lines of, building with LEGO should be about building with LEGO, not trying to make it something it’s not. And then my only thought was to create a brick that doesn’t exist. Some special shape that I’d want to have for some design. I can get behind that. I just don’t have the need yet so I can’t think of anything.
