Leon Sphinx for Passover

OK for my usual Passover name card Egyptian pun, kept that one mild since apparently joking about Nefertiti is uncool. But this year I went with Sphinx (I think that is plural?) But not the great sphinx, but for my family I went more with the Meh sphinx, of the Sphinx of Haspushet which resides in the Met on 5th Ave (they’ve apparently changed the name from the Metropolitan Museum of art). That sphinx is about the size of a dog (but being rock is around 400lbs). It’s printed in a sandstone PLA. I am guessing this is the museum’s laser scan since it had the bottom underside (which is not flat because apparently the Egyptians didn’t worry about how the model would sit on the print bed). I solved that but dropping the model 2mm into the print bed and did the name embossing in PrusaSliver rather than CAD which was so much faster to get done. All printed on my Prusa MK4S although probably could have put all 31 of them on the XL at once, but I got enough out at a time on the 4s. To add to the stress of hosting 31 people for dinner, my wife noticed that 2 of them were missing at noon, which meant they finished printed about 20 minutes before guests arrive. I have no idea where those 2 went I am sure I will find it some day having fallen out some where…

To print the beard I used “organic” supports (aka tree supports) which came off incredibly smoothly. BTW this sphinx is a female (it was Haspushet’s mother/cousin, don’t think about it, it’s not a pretty image) but she gets a beard anyway as that was the mark of royalty.

They look fabulous  The whole dinner table looks gorgeous!

My Mom was just in Egypt, and saw this one in Memphis - with the fancy beard

Everything came out great! As always. I’m guessing invitations to your dinners are a pretty hot ticket.

I love how in the Middle East where there are antiquities everywhere these kinds of things are just in the middle of the street. Of course it help that the climate is virtually humidity and weather free (other than the occasional plague :grinning:)
