Make Gorilla Tape Sheets -- Best way to remove lots of small bits of masking

@Bsacamano Often I’m cutting watercolor painted on gesso plywood or alcohol inks on acrylic. Unfortunately the isopropyl alcohol would dissolve all of that away! Thanks for the idea though, I’m sure it will work for others how might stumble across this thread!

I’d love to hear more about your process!

I let all the cats out of the bags at the 2021 Virtual Puzzle Parley (although I don’t actually keep any about making ) You can watch both sessions on YouTube:

Watercolor on wood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PLpO45zwnI
Alcohol ink on acrylic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RfAcl1Jrd4

Th Koi Pond puzzle that I made for the Puzzle Exchange: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o6hna9X54g is how I came up with making sheets of gorilla tape – I had to remove masking from 1500 glass green acrylic puzzle pieces, both sides! I wanted to cut without the masking, but even the smallest amount of vapor redeposit was not acceptable, so masking it was :grimacing: One day I’ll get around to posting about that!

Ohh this looks like fun to watch!

I’ve also been really interested in understanding what order to do things like - sublimation / Glowforging or painting / cutting. (With puzzles of course, it makes sense that you’d cut second!)

Does that work on leather? I ruined some of my pieces trying to get the masking off the tiny engraved and scored images.

If the masking comes off the leather, it should work fine. The better question is, do you need masking on leather for engraving? I think not, although that isn’t a material I’ve used much of, so maybe someone else can chime in, or a forum search would help.

@kmblair I find it way easier to clean and condition the leather after than keep masking on tiny fiddly bits. If there is masking on fiddly bits I take it off with tweezers.

thanks! I don’t use masking on the other leather (like Saddle), but since the PG came with it, I’ve been using it. I will try without.

I do not mask leather. I wipe clean with a baby wipe and have never had a problem.
