Where was the Pro version, the Air Filter and the software platform that runs everything? The only live demo we have seen is the trace feature. What about 3D? We haven’t seen any examples for 3D / variable depth engraving.
The air filter and pro weren’t there; the full software was there and being shown.
Just a bit disappointing, with over a year gone by it would have been nice to see more of the features that have been promised in action and to see the actual units we paid for like the Pro and the Air filter.
we still have not seen the Glowforge do variable depth engraving or the Pro’s ability to etch and cut on stock that is pushed through the pass-through slot. When can we expect to see these things?
I think that the templates thing was the big reveal. He said big thing to reveal at NY, but maybe in time for Seattle, on the 6th, and then posted the templates on the 14th.
And while from our side it looks like mostly the same thing… from THEIR side it was the first time they combined digital work with hand sketch work. Which IS a pretty huge deal. Just not a line that many people are likely to be planning to blur right at the moment.
Class IV lasers like the Pro are prohibited in public exhibition for safety reasons.
Very true, however, a video could be made & shared.
There was a Basic Glowforge on display there not being used, It doesn’t need to run to demonstrate the pass-through. Regardless have there been any photos or videos of the Pro model or Air filter in action? We are with in 2 months from delivery, do they even have them in the office? I don’t spend much time in the forums so maybe I have missed things.
The pro is basically the basic with software adjustments and minor hardware changes. So seeing a basic run is a good demonstration of how the pro will run. That being said it would be nice to see the pass through slot in action as well as the filter. Dan has said it many times but all the features of the basic are in the pro and they want to make sure the basic is flawless before perfecting the pro features.
It is possible that the rules for the event are that you cannot even BRING a class IV laser (since, why would you unless planning to secretly plug it in and use it?) The rules for the location aren’t customized to each specific event, and trying to get waivers for some things that sound scary can be pretty hard.
No excuses to give for them on lack of videos, though just showing someone push wood through a hole isn’t exactly exciting. Seeing the software pick up where a cut left off and was re-positioned on the other hand… hard to get in a video maybe, but absolutely exciting.
Regarding the filters, reports from staff conversations at the booth are that there are filters running on test machines at the office, and we will be VERY happy with the filters.
Oh gosh, this is the only picture I have - as you can tell they were well-loved and used at Maker Faire!
Awesome! I was mainly interested in whether they were made of rubber or polymer. Hard to tell from such well-used stamps, so I’m gonna assume rubber. Thanks for the photo!
Thanks so much for the detailed write-up, pics, and videos!
Uploaded with no comment, except that for some reason, the full pic is not displaying correctly. So I made it into two separate ones.
Awww… we were just down on Arthur Street in May. What a treat for us far-out westerners from Oregon.
There’s no export function planned, and no plans to either preserve or delete old prints. Right now you should treat the design area as a convenience and don’t destroy the original file/drawing/etc.
I don’t know how I arrived at the impression that scanned designs are logged in the account registered to the machine, able to be repeatedly called up.
Too bad.
It’s definitely in the hopper!
Will the software list “recent files” even if they aren’t stored with the account? That is will it list the file and location where you last loaded it ( i.e. c:/projects/filename.svg)? Or do you have to just file open and “locate” the file again (assuming next day, or GF was off for a while and you came back to make some more items.
Right now, you can re-print any previous print. No guarantees about this feature; we have a lot of ideas for how it might work
