Manifestation Station - Vintage TV cut, engrave, kerf and mirrored acrylic!

Hi fam <3

I saw a post about a snowglobe (double layer acrylic, see-through) ornament in the Friendliest Glowforge FB Community and it got my gears turning on how I could use this concept in a way that spoke to me and the things I like to create.

Behold what I call the “Manifestation Station”

The Manifestation Station is a physical representation of the console TV you and I have spent countless hours sitting in front of - being told what to buy, who we are and who we can be. This Manifestation Station that I’ve made flips that script on its head and makes the Manifestation Station a tangible item with a magentized back. You can take off the back of the Manifestation Station and populate it with Manifestation Station tokens to represent the things you are wanting to manifest in your life. There are 36 Manifestation Station tokens in the set, cut from mirrored acrylic, in varyings sizes to fit one of three iconic Manifestation Station styles.

I recommend keeping your Manifestation Station tokens limited to 3 or 4 at a time, as our human spotlight of attention is quite narrow and easily overwhelmed/distracted.

Each Manifestation Station comes with a 16 page booklet that gives a background on the 36 Manifestation Station Tokens and includes over 50 journaling prompts and a step-by-step guide on how to get into integrity with others.

Things I learned by making this full concept creation:

  • It is not necessary to use painters tape to mask a mirrored acrylic sheet front and back before engraving and cutting. I spent about 5 hours diligently using my fingernails to scrape off the painters tape left behind on the small Manifestation Station Tokens. It works just as well to coat both sides of the acrylic with a thin layer of dish soap or baby shampoo, dry it with a hair dryer and then your clean up process is a simple rinse off of the soap.
  • Using black coated MDF for the rear of the Manifestation Station speeds up the assembly process as painting it black is no longer required.
  • Test cutting to measure KERF for the screen and the magnet holes is worthwhile to dial in the kerf in the cuts between the wood of the Manifestation Station, the acrylic of the screen, and the perfect size for the magnet hole.

Here’s the list of products I used to achieve my Manifestation Stations
5x2mm neodymium magnets for the Manifestation Station backs LINK
4x4 Basswood Plywood coasters for the front of the Manifestation Stations LINK
1/8 Baltic Birch from H&H Tampa for the piece between the screen & the back of the Manifestation Station LINK
1/8 Reversible Black MDF from H&H Tampa LINK
1/16 Yellow Gold & Silver Mirrored Acrylic from Houston Acrylic for the Manifestation Station Tokens LINK
1/16 Clear Cast Acrylic sheet for the Manifestaiton Station screens LINK

Cut hole measurements for the 5x2mm magnets: .185 inches in the Glowforge UI
I couldn’t figure out how to ensure my SVG dimensions weren’t skewed when I uploaded my SVG files into app.glowforge.com so I manually uploaded the cut circles and adusted them to the proper size.

I hope this inspires someone or helps someone take their idea or inspiration to a personally gratifing end result.

My first night selling these at a night market was last night and I sold 9 of them! I was pretty thrilled with the customers’ reactions. They’d never seen anything like it, and that’s because it’s an idea that I thought up, designed, created, assembled and brought to market just last night.

Would you mind sharing what settings you used for the mirrored acrylic tokens? I’ve tried the “Medium Black Acrylic” setting as recommended on the Houston Acrylic website, but that seems to sort of melt this material when it cuts. The edges are a bit wiggly and the mirror part gets kind of warped. It’s gorgeous stuff so I’d love to be able to use it!

Happy to provide that! The easiest method is to smear dish soap on both sides of the acrylic, let it dry (or hit it with a hair dryer to speed the process). I used lift pins to raise the acrylic up off the crumb tray a bit, set the focus and then used 1000/full/170 lpi for the engrave and the proofgrade cut settings for Medium Clear Acrylic.

The first go round I used blue painters tape on both sides of the acrylic and laid it down on the crumb tray & used the same settings above - BUT this process required me to use my fingernails to scrape off tiny shards of blue painters tape off of tiny mirrored acrylic bits and it took HOURS. The dish soap method worked like a CHAMP and I could’ve avoided spending basically 5 hours picking tape off of little doo-dads if I’d been brave enough to just try the dish soap route! ;D
