Maple veneer Engraving on Home Made Snare Drum

This is going to be my entry into the Rockler Bent Wood Challenge. Its a snare drum made of maple veneers soaked in resin and laminated together. I then etched these tentacles onto a new veneer and wrapped the shell in that. Its 14 inches by 5.5 inches. I have new hoops on the way but i was too excited to try it out so i threw some old rusty ones on.

An Easter Egg idea for next time… Sneak in a drumstick (or two) being held by the tentacles.

Looks so sharp and clean, very cool!

With perhaps a Japanese Seascape in the background ? Or would that be too subtle?

Fantastic work!

It’s very sharp and crisp but not much sustain. Its close to how I expected it to be.

I will post a link here when I get done with the build video if you want to get an idea how I made it. It will also have some tips on improving the design for the future so yours will come out much better!
