Mars Attacks! / Take 'em out at the Ball Game

Just revisited a process I developed in 2018 for creating layered art from a 2D image. Always wanted to try it on a Mars Attacks comic I have which was deemed a “Baseball Special” by Topps Comics.

It’s a bit painstaking, but I love the look it delivers from the parallax effect of the foreground subject against the background.

The source image is the last one below.

This is a cool approach to creating layered art from a 2D image. While I’m not a fan of Mars Attacks, I do appreciate your skill in adapting the image.

Did you have to recreate missing details hidden behind the foreground subjects?

Correct. I create a layer in Photoshop and then use the Clone brush and the Smudge brush to paint the area that doesn’t exist in the original image. It falls into that “painstaking” category. :slightly_smiling_face:

How did you get the art on the wood? Is that Sublimation?

Not sublimation. Just printed on heavy stock and then attached to 1/8" Baltic Birch with Scotch 3M Positionable Mounting Adhesive. It’s one of about 20 steps in my process from 2018.
