Materials available?

Im new to Glowforge. So new in fact that ive not yet used my new Glowforge. My question is this…Im noticing many proof grade materials are sold out. Does anyone know when they will be restocked or another outlet to get safe materials. Im pretty intimidated to even try my machine much less worry about using the wrong materials.

Proofgrade materials come back into stock on a regular basis, but with the pandemic and the insane demand they sell out again very quickly.
There are hundreds of places to get good material, you just have to be able to determine what you want. The search function in this forum will be a good place to start as many users like yourself have asked this question in the past and the forum contains the answers they received.

Welcome to the addiction! The forum search can take some getting used to. Here’s a search to get you started:

Also, the Glowforge shop lets you sign up to be emailed when items you’re interested in come back in stock – it’s a useful function!

If you’re interested in working with wood, I recommend Ocooch Hardwoods. They have a large variety of domestic and exotic wood in thicknesses from 1/16 to 3/4. The wood is kiln-dried and sanded to 150 grit on both sides. They also have plywood.

I would suggest getting masonite hardboard from Home Depot or your local hardware store. It’s cheap so you can try all sorts of projects without breaking the bank. Then when you have a design nailed down switch to something more expensive if you need the wood look or you want to use acrylic etc. Of course you’ll have to either get them to cut it down to a useable size or cut it yourself to fit inside the GF.
