Materials inventory

Having moved most of my materials to my ex’s where’s I’m temporarily living, I decided to organize and do a bit of an inventory. Just the uncut sheets of proofgrade, plus the non-proofgrade “staples” I have, comes out around $800…

That doesn’t include the stack of material that’s been cut - I have a lot of scraps that have significant amount left on them, big enough for many other projects. Also oddball materials like chipboard, B&W board, large sheets of quality 3mm baltic birch (that need to be cut down), etc.

Huh I’ve never sat down and counted it up. I don’t think I’d have quite so much in proofgrade as I do hardwoods and Baltic.

I’m about 50/50. I have a lot of proofgrade clear acrylic (regular and glass-green), every other color acrylic, cherry, walnut, even basswood ply, and a unch (16 sheets) of draftboard. Store-bought MDF doesn’t cut it (ha!) for me, and I use it a lot for practical stuff for myself.

I love that 1/16 ply you shared, I’m halfway thru my second pack. I get Purebond 5/32" Maple ply from Home Depot - it comes in better-sized sheets with little waste. Some oddball stuff like chipboard (I also use a lot of that), 1/16" clear acrylic also from THD, B&W board, unusual acrylics, etc…

I keep meaning to try purebond, I was under the impression that it’s MDF-core but then somebody posted something that said that it has wood core. Do you know which it is?

it’s MDF.

I think I don’t have that much, but I probably do :face_with_diagonal_mouth: It’s not organised at all! I’m still planning on moving my laser to its new home, which isn’t set up yet, so materials are just tossed on top of the pile since it’s temporary

Clear acrylic and leather are definitely the ones I have the most of, followed by koa, and then a few sheets here and there of so many other things…oh yeah and tiles.

I’m going to do an inventory when I move it all, but first I have to have the space for it to move to!

I’ve never sat down and inventoried for $$ amount, just do I have two sheets of X to do this next project.

At one point there would have been a huge difference between what I had in and replacement as I bought about $800 (replacment) acrylics for $200.

The only things I make sure I keep in quantity is Baltic Birch and Draftboard.

Also, I keep bins of scrap that is cell phone size up. I have lots of projects that all the materials are from sorting through the bins.

We just moved, and I have far more than necessary. Close-out purchases and stock-ups. Lots of Baltic birch and acrylics … but also some sweet buys on hardwoods.

Anxious to finish getting settled and get started using what I have.

There are definitely times I feel like a dragon perched on a hoard of craft materials.

I’m afraid to sit down and tally up the material I have. It is a lot.

Many acrylics (from several vendors). I tend not to buy proofgrade anymore. I just don’t like the MDF core for most of my projects, but I do keep some proograde around for what my neighbor likes me to make

I have a decent amount of Proofgrade stacked up. I ran through a lot of my Thick Maple last month, but I got most of it for $8/sheet from Joann stores going out of business.

Expecting to be able to sell finished stuff I have gone crazy on exotics, usually bought in bulk scraps. I don’t lnow if I could name all the different species. Purchased by name it would be worth more than the Glowforge.

I still have some of the original :proofgrade: hardwood that came with the :glowforge: in addition to slowly hoarding material over the past 7 years that I’ll never get to. I don’t laser that much these days, but I tend to use a lot of clear acrylic and 1/16" MDF. I really need a reorganization day to go through my inventory. I would definitely trade my stack of leather for some thick clear acrylic or medium draftboard.

What’s that pretty flat file you’ve got there?

That is the Seville Classics® UltraHD® 12-Drawer Rolling Workbench, 77" W x 20" D x 37.5" H from Sam’s club, and is home to Gridfinity heaven. This is an ongoing rabbit hole, but worth sharing some organizational magic.

Very neat and impressive. I wish I was that organized.

You have fallen soooooo far down the gridfinity rabbit hole that I am picking my jaw up off the floor! I need to get on the stick so I can be 10% as organized.

I think I have it figured as your server but in case I don’t, what is that on the left most top?
