Mindfulness Fidget coin/dial/toy/totem/whatever

Hi Everyone! I designed this last night with the explicit intention of sharing it, I’m not only glad it turned out well, but I’m hopeful it will help bring some peace to everyone’s stress-adled minds. I was playing with one of my single-dial counters and wanted to make some kind of fidget toy that I could tumble/twiddle around in my fingers, play with the dial, even hold the dial portion and use the “finger hole” like an old rotary phone.

But then when I was trying to think of how to decorate it, it occurred to me that it could be very useful as a meditation/mindfulness/gratitude totem type thingy. So, on one side I put a simple wandering labyrinth to give it some texture and act as a grounding element, can trace the labyrinth with your finger while clearing your mind, etc. The other side, I put a reminder to adopt an “attitude of gratitude” and the numbers on the dial (goes up to 14) can be used for counting your blessings, or maybe you have a mantra or affirmation you want to repeat and count those (a la prayer bead style), etc. Small enough to carry in a pocket or purse for portable mindfulness and nervous energy release anywhere, any time.

I used a small scrap section of medium draftboard and silver/bronze Sharpie, but I’m sure would look great in any of the woods. The center post is pressure fit and the whole thing assembles well without glue, and NOT having the center disk glued to either side helps to keep the fit loose enough that the wheel spins pretty freely, wax can help make it smoother.

Make and even give away as many as you want (just don’t sell, not only is it against forum rules, it defeats the purpose anyway) and spread the gift of mindfulness and gratitude!

And here’s the file, right click and save as. It uploads to the GFUI as 3 steps, 1 engrave and two cuts, cut red lines first before black.

Thanks for taking a look, I hope you and yours enjoy, and until next creation, Happy Forging!

That is super cool! You didn’t need any parts to make this? I’ve read through this twice just to be sure I didn’t miss anything. Am I crazy? Or is that accurate?

Nope, no other parts! The center square post pressure fits through all three layers, just keep the center circle of the middle gear piece so the gear has something to spin around.
