I’m on a roll with practical cuts this weekend
We’ve had this drink mat on our mini fridge for months, and always slid either off to the side or back…which worked, but I’m a klutz and would often manage to set my glass off the edge of it. The plan had always been to make it fit, and today was the day - the whole project took like 10 minutes, including running up and down the stairs ![]()
My fancy fancy pattern which I ran 2x using the PG settings for Maple ply since I knew it was unlikely to cut all the way through the ~.5” material. I ended up cutting the last little bits on the backside with an xacto knife.
Oh yeah, and I didn’t want to risk the pattern closing itself oddly so I made it a closed line, and wrapped tinfoil around the rubber where the vertical line would have cut.
Et voila!
and while it can slide off, it takes some effort so I don’t think that thing is going anywhere accidently ![]()
The hardest part was not lining it up to the edge since, as you can see, the rubbr mat doesn’t actually go all the way to the right, I wrapped some masking around it and ran a cut just through that - I was off by ~.06” the first time, and dead on the 2nd.
