Mini Fridge Drinks Mat

I’m on a roll with practical cuts this weekend  We’ve had this drink mat on our mini fridge for months, and always slid either off to the side or back…which worked, but I’m a klutz and would often manage to set my glass off the edge of it. The plan had always been to make it fit, and today was the day - the whole project took like 10 minutes, including running up and down the stairs :stuck_out_tongue:

My fancy fancy pattern which I ran 2x using the PG settings for Maple ply since I knew it was unlikely to cut all the way through the ~.5” material. I ended up cutting the last little bits on the backside with an xacto knife.

Oh yeah, and I didn’t want to risk the pattern closing itself oddly so I made it a closed line, and wrapped tinfoil around the rubber where the vertical line would have cut.

Et voila!

and while it can slide off, it takes some effort so I don’t think that thing is going anywhere accidently

The hardest part was not lining it up to the edge since, as you can see, the rubbr mat doesn’t actually go all the way to the right, I wrapped some masking around it and ran a cut just through that - I was off by ~.06” the first time, and dead on the 2nd.

Don’t you hate it when that happens? :slightly_smiling_face:You spend months living with something you know you can fix and then when you finally get to doing something about it, it takes 10 minutes. And then instead of “cool this works” you’re thinking “what the heck, why didn’t I do this earlier, I could have saved myself so much irritation”.

Apparently I’m a little brain-dead this morning - it took me about 3 minutes to figure out it was the MAT you were cutting and not that shape on the right! So it took me almost half the time to figure it out as it took you to cut it out! I was like, “why would you set your drink on that little shape in the corner?”  And this is how my day is going - oh Lord, help!!

Nicely done. I would have pulled the cover off the pivot, rough-cut the mat close enough to lay it down, replaced the pivot cover, and sliced along the edge. Yours is definitely clean, but who has 10 minutes these days. :stuck_out_tongue:
