(tried to stain with ink, didn’t work brilliantly)

Ink loves to wick up the wood fibers. It’s really hard to contain or get clean edges
To prevent capillary action from bleeding pigment into the open wood fibers I have used an artist’s brush to paint a clear finish on the edges of the engrave to seal them.
I’ve done a deep score around what I’m going to stain and filled that with clear paint (nail polish is easy if you’re only doing a single project) so if the ink does bleed it’s below the lowest level of the score.
That may a cool idea to do a rorschach clock using random ink blots
