Moving, need alternative box options

Hey there - we are moving and my glowforge pro will be in storage for a few months before getting to the new house. I regretfully rage-cleaned out my house a few months back and suddenly need a box for storage.

Is there a place I can take the Glowforge to get properly boxed and prepped for moving? I know I could wrap it myself with a fridge box or similar sized box and some foam, but what about the orange / red pieces inside? Can someone give me a pic of what it looks like when its unboxed? I need to know where to put these little pieces. I saw a previous post about FedEx doing this … how much was it? I wish I could just buy a new box but it’s sold out.

Thanks!

They are sold out of boxes? Why does that make me laugh?

Seriously though, I wonder if anyone has a dead unit and is willing to send you the box.

That’s the problem, shipping the boxes is done by volume, which is painful. And really the value isn’t the box, it’s the foam bits and securing screws etc.

You might be able to get a custom box made for cheap if you’re near a big city.

Pratt, Uline, etc, all sell boxes in a huge array of sizes. I might try to find a comparable box locally, and then rig up my own securing screws and other bits.

do you have a reference of the internal orange/ red bits? what do they hold together? i’d imagine I can just use zipties. I’ve moved a couple times without them but maybe this time i should be more careful

Hmm i think the unboxing instructions have everything you need to know. Let me look.

Does anyone know the thread pitch of the screws? If you find out it’s a standard size (which it will be) you can get replacement bolts at home depot.

Yeah here you go:

They have pics of all the little bits. The only thing I don’t know how to replicate is the orange clip… the rest is tape and/or bolts.

thanks a bunch - didn’t even think to look there.

I have two boxes but the minimum cost to ship one is $279.69.

You’d be better off ordering a box from GF as they get commercial/discounted shipping rates.

Minimum cost to ship it folded up into box shape. Flattened, it has to be less, right?

Hard to say, because it’s so oversized at that point.

g*ddamn - well i think i’m just going to get a fridge box or whatever and make my own. as it’s just for storage and I don’t need to ship it.

I chatted w/ upline but they want me to order 4 min @ $25 each

It would be a lot cheaper folded but then there would be no way to include the foam.

The boxes and foam are a big problem but the orange bits are really critical. Fortunately, you can buy those separately…

Do you know any wood workers who could make you a simple plywood crate?

The foam isn’t an issue. A big box plus packing peanuts would be fine for the machine. The bits are the trick and I don’t even think those are that hard to figure out.

oh, thanks so much. I didn’t think about just making a crate… yea we can do that.
