Multi-Colored Topological Hollow Triambic Icosahedron

In the spirit of Adam Savage’s tested, here is a one day build I completed yesterday of a Topological Hollow Triambic Icosahedron. At least that is what Stella4D calls it. This was fun because there are colors on both sides of each face. Only twelve 3D printed connectors were needed, and 20 faces. Proofgrade draftboard was used for the faces painted with acrylic paint.

That one seriously looks like it should be able to move. I love that when you look inside there is colour as well

Very cool!

So if I’m reading this right, the entire thing should be “boingy”? Like it should have a fair bit of flex?

Looks that way, but it’s actually quite solid.

Gorgeous and intriguing! How you come up with these is beyond me…

I use software called Stella4D to generate the polyhedrals, so I don’t really come up with them, I’m just browsing through the app and ask myself if it looks possible.

I know you do, but it still takes a certain mind to coach it out of the program…
