It was sold with and is still advertised with a 0.5" capability.
Maximum material height with tray: 0.5″ (13mm)
Maximum Cut & Engrave height: 0.5″ (13mm)
They need to fix the software.

IIRC, it’s less of an avoidance detector and more of a catastrophic collision already occurred detector.
It doesn’t seem to be operational though. The head can bang on the side and the carriage can come of the rails and it still carries on. I think they must be ignoring the accelerometers.
You’re right, I was misremembering how the Glowforge approaches a good cup of coffee.
