This holidays all my friends and family will receive gifts made from me. No returns
I was so excited about this puzzle. Saw so many in internet and I wasn’t sure I will be actually able to make it by my self.
So with a screen shot in Google maps, I draw all the states with Inkscape and it wasn’t so hard in the end. I used two 1/8" MDF and one 1/4" Baltic.
I will make one more and use different tipe of plywood to make contrast.
What fun! Who doesn’t love a puzzle!
That turned out really nice!
Love that you found a way to do it yourself… however never underestimate the SVG maps on Wikipedia. If you take on another map puzzle project (europe, anyone? Africa? Counties of your home state?) wiki has lots of great free maps that might jumpstart your process
That would be a good teaching aid for school kids as well. Some geography teachers might be interested in those.
This is good to know! Can you explain little bit more? I would like to make myself a world map and was curious how long will take me for each continent.
But with something for start will be way more easier
So you just search Wikipedia for the map. Like this:
https://www.google.com/search?q=world+map+wiki+inurl%3Asvg
Then you click through and see if the map meets your needs. The perfect map is a bit less detailed so hunt around a little, there are usually several options.
Too detailed will overburn your edges.
Good job!
Two of my favorite things …. Maps and puzzles. A perfect combination! Very well done.
Love it I need to do this for my grandson.
Keep Creating.
Oh, I love it! And truthfully, probably need it.
This is great! I still remember 5th grade - that’s when we learned the 50 states- and how difficult it was for some. This would have made it much more fun!
Well done. This would make a great geography study aid, and other continents would be easy probably.
I had no idea about this (had used only Google Maps). Excited to look into it ~ thanks for the tip!
Congratulations ~ great job! Looks really nice!
Yeah I didn’t know about the Wikipedia maps either! Cool!
I might make my son something like this. Of course, geography is one of the areas I’m least proficient in, so I know it would be helpful for me, too.
A puzzle like this would have made learning the states a lot more fun, when I was a kid. Yours looks great.
Thanks I check everything. There have a lot of good things there.
Cool Project.
I’m glad to see that you gave Upper Michigan back to Wisconsin. J.K.
Yeahh, this way was looking better. I combine some states as well to make bigger pieces because was for a kid.
