I expect you could engrave the red a bit to register the black parts.
It’s really not that hard. Put the largest piece in first, the right side, which has border on the bottom and top, lining up that the edges are even. The rest of the pieces go in and just try to keep the space even. It helps when you have pieces that have that kind of detailed framing that just fit together.
