New Celtic knotwork art piece

I started this design ages ago. Finished it up maybe last year? Left it sit there until I could decide what I wanted the final piece to look like when it was finished. I think I changed my mind half a dozen times. I finally had to cut the parts in cardboard to see it and choose my layers. This is a targe - a strapped wooden shield - which would have been used in battle in early modern times. The wood was wrapped in leather and then decorated with nails and studs. I riffed on that with my layers, since it’s obviously never going to protect you in battle - lol. I’m happy with how this turned out, and will probably experiment some more with the layering. That’s half the fun!
