Here was my latest FedEx adventure. I order skin allergy pills for my dog from Chewy. They autoship every 28 days and usually arrive in 1-2 days. This time:

Roughly 2.75 x 2 ceramic magnet. It took about 20 minutes. Not the instant gratification of a laser it feels more like 3D printer times.

Any thoughts on ink costs? They seemed awfully cagey on that so I didn’t order. I do want a UV printer but not that one if the costs are high. I simply don’t care about having dimension.

Cagey? oh maybe without an account you can’t shop for the ink. I just ordered another ink kit (you can either order all 6 in a kit or each color individually). Yes the ink (really UV resin) is not cheap (similar to SLA 3D printing resin (since it is the same thing). Here are the prices (note the one on the top right you then select CMYK or White-base or Gloss) which are each $43 for 100ml. For pricing of a given print I did a 40mm challenge coin with raised portions and I think it used 1.5ml in total. Sure if you’re doing wall hanging framed art you’re going to use a lot of it, small things very little.

Actually feels very much like hi-res photo ink jet times (unsurprisingly). Like an epson I used to print photos on took forever, since I rarely do that anymore I just have a color laser which prints color documents about as fast as black and white…

Yes I missed the center on the right coin, but still learning (3D printed a jig but hadn’t perfected it). The jig also helps catch overspray. The left coin I didn’t remember to slide the depth slider down so it made it ridiculously thick at 5mm, but the right is set to 0.7mm which is much better looking and still very tactile. While zoomed in like the photo you can see surface roughness in the depth algorithm, it looks amazing to the naked eye.

Several lifetimes ago, I was responsible for operating one of them fancy photo printers at a business that liked to take photos by the thousands and liked to have them printed and framed and hung in the hall by the dozens.
I still have nightmares about keeping that thing fed and cleaned, and spending whole days disassembling and unclogging the printhead with increasingly dramatic means. So many test prints, so many calibrations, so much mess.
I now have an ink jet back in my life, and one that prints exotic resin at that. I just hope it continues to behave itself, and all the engineering Eufy put into automatic maintenance pays off.

That is absolutely crazy! And they complain about the cost of fuel to deliver stuff - no wonder, when they make an order travel all over the country. So stupid.
