New LED Thingy / Wooden Mac SE

I made a new blinky thing (short video at the bottom).

The case is a wooden version of a Mac SE and it’s about 6 inches tall.

The innards are a cube with acrylic mirror on 5 sides and a two way mirror in front (standard infinity cube stuff).

An 8by8 LED matrix sits on the bottom with a clear acrylic maze pattern over the top. A pixelblaze nano powers everything.

It is really pretty in action:

Very nice. The light show is really interesting. The mirror effects are awesome and makes it stand out.

That’s mesmerizing! I could sit and look at that for a long time.

That brings back fond memories! I bought my first Macintosh (Fat Mac [512k]) in 1985. My life since then has been a long series of various Macs, including an SE.

I love the light show. Really brought a smile to my face today.

Now you could put a raspberry pi in there and run a macintosh SE emulator… Even the cheapest Pi would blow the original Mac away… The Macintosh SE, released in 1987, featured a Motorola 68000 processor running at 8 MHz, 1 MB of RAM (expandable to 4 MB), and a 9-inch monochrome display with a resolution of 512x342 pixels. It also included a 3.5" 800k floppy disk drive, with an option for a second floppy drive or a 20MB or 40MB hard drive.

So cool. I had a Mac SE/30 IN 1989.
